Communication Supports in Exercising Capacity, Choice and Autonomy

This webinar series describes the communication supports people may need to control what happens in their lives and to express preferences, choices and decisions that matter to them. It addresses Article 12 in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities. Article 12 states that people have a right to exercise their legal capacity to make decisions that affect them and to have the supports they may need to do this.

Communication Assistance

This free course is for anyone who assists people communicating with unfamiliar people in their communities.  It is useful for family members, personal attendants, disability support workers, and students in a disability field.

Duration: approximately 2-3 hours.

This course is also available in French.

Please note at this time, CDAC does not provide content or technical support for this course.

The CDAC communication assistant database is no longer maintained however, we encourage groups to develop their own list of assistants who can support people with communicating in community situations.

Working with a Communication Assistant

This free course is by and for people who have communication disabilities. Get tips on how to hire, train and work with a person who assists you communicating at meetings and appointments.

Duration: approximately 2-3 hours.

Making your services accessible for people with communication disabilities

This free webinar is for people who work in organizations and businesses that provide goods and services to the members of the public.  Learn ways to communicate with people who have communication disabilities in face-to-face or telephone interactions, as well as how to host accessible meetings, public events and provide written information in ways that people can access.

Duration: approximately 40 minutes.
